Introduction

Constructing a table of contents with properly formatted items spanning multiple lines is no small task. The following macro by Tadziu Hoffmann is a great help at solving this.

In this macro (tocfmt.ro) the lines are arbitrarily wrapped at four inches by using diversions and delaying the interpretation of tabs and leaders until the text has already been formatted (2021-11/msg00091).
